Gas a strategic issue in Nigeria
In Nigeria, the month of April of 2021 was marked by the importance given to gas by the Ministry of
Petroleum Resources and all other organizations in the industry such as the NNPC. The year 2020 was
dedicated to gas, but the stakes are so high that the entire decade is now baptized the gas decade in
2021, Nigeria has a large stock of gas, occupying the ninth place in the world with a gas reserve of
180,490,000 Cubic FT. The state of ONI holds a significant share of the stocks. On April 15, 2021, Ware
the capital of ONI, was the scene of a two-day "National Gas Expansion Program" event organized by
the IMO State Government in conjunction with Nigeria's Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources. The
objective was to present the strategy that Nigeria is deploying regarding its gas resources with as
special guest the Minister of State Chief Timipre Sylva.
The stakes are high, now Nigeria realizes that
although it has large oil stocks, it must restructu-
re its strategy around gas. Two important factors
must be put forward namely ecological reality
and profitability. By promoting the use of gas in
everyday consumption by hou-seholds, motorists
and industries, Nigeria will respond adequately
to environmental challenges while achieving sub-
stantial savings for consumers.
This is why the Minister of State Chief Timipre
